All four of my grandparents were immigrants from Slovakia.  Starting in 1999, I took several trips with my father and other members of my family to find family roots and reconnect with our relatives there.

Journey to Slovakia – My first trip and my father’s second.

Return to Slovakia – Back again, this time with my brother Richard and niece Lisa.

Richard and Lisa took hours of video, from which I put together these short films.

Driving to Levoča – Video from the car as we drove from Bratislava to Levoča
Visiting Torysky – Some household and farmyard scenes in Torysky, mostly at the home of my great aunt Katherine.
Easter Sunday in Torysky – Easter services at the village church
Wooden Churches of Slovakia – Driving east of Torysky, searching out historic wooden churches
Dancing in Torysky – Short clip of the village’s anniversary celebration, showing me awkwardly dancing with a relative who is dressed in the traditional village costume.
